Allan Cogswell is native to Northern Virginia. He lives happily in Falls Church, VA, and is employed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. He has three children, two grandchildren, and another grandchild due in Spring 2024. When he’s not on the baseball field or with family, he can often be found volunteering in the community and serving each winter as Santa Claus with Toys for Tots.

Allan’s career in baseball started when he joined Arlington Babe Ruth (ABR) in 1990, coaching his son with the Arlington A’s T-Ball team in the Bambino Division. He continued coaching his son up to high school, even winning two District Championships and two times runner-up in the Virginia State tournament. While his children attended Oakton High School, he stopped coaching to follow them in their sports.

After their graduation, Allan wasted no time in getting back into baseball with ABR – but this time as an umpire. And now, after 15 years, he has enjoyed every moment of the journey and his reputable impact has been far reaching. He has served as one of the prominent ABR trainers for young umpires, helping to conduct pre-season training in the classroom, in the cage, and on the field. Additionally, he has worked with MAC, NVBUA, and Cooperstown Dream Park (2016 and 2019); served as UIC and crew member of numerous District and State and Regional tournaments; and helped train local umpires with Donny Rose, Jr. and George Burke. Notably, Allan was selected to serve on the umpire crews for the 10-Year-olds Cal Ripken World Series in 2021 and 2022.
