Tommy Clary served as President of the Brunswick Babe Ruth League from 2000 through 2003, following 2 years of service on the local league committee in 1998 and 1999. He has served as District 2 Commissioner since his election in 2001. Prior to his Babe Ruth positions, he coached his son’s team in the local Dixie Youth Baseball league from 1994 through 1997, served on the local league committee in 1996 and 1997, and umpired from 1995 through 2002.

Tommy’s playing days started when he took the field as a shortstop and pitcher for the inaugural season of Brunswick County’s recreational youth baseball league, which was started in 1963. After 3 more years playing in the Brunswick County league, Tommy played on the high school baseball team for 4 years.

Since 2010, Tommy’s volunteer work has included being the pastor for Sunday services at the Ruth Memorial Chapel in Gasburg. His invocations at Virginia Babe Ruth’s State Spring and Fall Meetings ensure that participants remember that the purpose of each meeting’s business is to benefit Virginia’s baseball- and softball-playing kids.  Tommy continues his work as a logger that he began on 1971 after dropping out of Virginia Tech. As a logging foreman, he runs all types of heavy equipment and has learned to enjoy the serenity of being miles away from everyone on a bulldozer building roads.
